Three of the country's top hiking trails are in the area, namely the Otter trail, Tsitsikamma Trail and the Outeniqua hiking trail. The spectacular Sedgefield lakes district, with its abundance of bird life and nature trails is also nearby .
The Outeniqua Choo-tjoe steam train, travelling between George and Knysna, is a popular attraction. George has the only National Steam Railway Museum in the country.
Other places of interest nearby include Victoria Bay, well known as one of the finest surfing venues in South Africa and one can also enjoy Bunji jumping off the Gouritz River or the Storms River Bridge.

Turn left at the traffic lights and continue along York Street.
At the third set of traffic lights (Game Shopping Centre), turn left into
Plattner Boulevard.
Go over stop street and turn right into Barkhuizen Drive.
Follow the signs to the Protea Hotel King George.
From George Airport
On exiting the airport, turn left towards the R102 highway.
Follow the R102 until a T-junction. Turn left in York Street.
At the second set of traffic lights (Game Shopping Centre), turn left
into Plattner Boulevard.
Go over stop street and turn right into Barkhuizen Drive.
Follow the signs to the Protea Hotel King George.
From Port Elizabeth
