Madrid
Madrid is the largest city and, at the same time, the capital of Spain, located in the center of Pyrenean peninsular. The climate is continental with hot, dry summer and cold winter. Even though average temperature in the middle of winter is +5 Celsius, it feels much colder due to windy high-altitude air. Madrid is easily accessible by all available means, has very convenient public transportation system and metro, tourism infrastructure. Madrid is the most visited city in Spain and truly considered to be among the most beautiful places in the world.
Economic and cultural life of Madrid is concentrated on Paseo de la Castellana, Alkala and Campomanes streets where the most fancy restaurants, glamorous boutiques and gorgeous Madrid hotels are located. If you intend to splurge on your accommodation in Madrid, book Madrid hotels on those streets or in central districts like Centro, Arganzuela, Salamanca, etc. (in total there are 21 districts in Madrid). Budget accommodations in Madrid are represented by cheap Madrid hotels and Madrid hostels, as well as two, three and four star Madrid hotels which are spread all over the city and it will take you some time if you want to select any of such Madrid accommodations for your stay. So, compare Madrid hotels in terms of price and location beforehand which would be very helpful since rates may differ among identical, at first sight, Madrid accommodations located not far from the central districts. Here is a tip for you to note if you look for cheap Madrid accommodation: Spanish call the guesthouse-like accommodations a hostal, whereas real hostel often refers to a shared rooms accommodations. Finding a relatively cheap Madrid hotel is not a problem, just spare some time for picking up the best location and compare with other Madrid hotel options to get the best one.
Madrid is really full of sights to see and things to do. “Must see” places are world famous Prado Museum with the largest gallery of Spanish and European fine-art collections, Reina Sofía National Museum and Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum of Art. The central part of Madrid is enclosed among three beautiful squares, one of which is Plaza Puerta del Sol – a ground-zero of Madrid where statue of Bronze Bear under strawberry tree is located. Two other squares to stroll over are Plaza Mayor и Plaza de Espana. Try famous local cuisine masterpieces in a great variety of restaurants and cafes. Here are just few of them: Oreja de Cerdo (pig’s ear fried in garlic), Callos a la Madrileña (spicy beef in a hot pot), Empanadas Gallegas (meat or tuna pies) and many others. Nightlife in Madrid is also bright and vivid with discos and nightclubs. Your visit to Madrid will definitely become one of your brightest travel experiences!
