Bologna
Bologna is a city in the central part of Italy, administrative centre of the Emilia-Romagna region and the province of the same name. Bologna has different nicknames, such as " Bologna the Stout" ("Bologna la grassa"), "Bologna the Scholar " ("Bologna la dotta") and "Bologna the Red" ("Bologna la rossa"). All these names belong to the town due to special reasons.
Bologna is the culinary Italian capital, and gourmets will find here native delicacies: paste with meat sauce (Tagliatelle alla bolognese), parmesan cheese and mortadello - delicate Bologna sausage. You can hear lots of stories about unknown cooks who tried to make Tagliatelle macaroni as long and thin as hair of their sweethearts and Tortella ravioli as little as lady’s umbilicus.
The next nickname appeared thanks to Bologna university (founded in 1088), one of the oldest and most respected in Europe. It is here, that Dante, Petrarca, Thomas Beket, the Pope Nicholas V, Erasmus of Rotterdam and Copernicus studied.
The last nickname officially belongs to plenty of ochre rooves and warm orange-and-red brick tins of buildings.
In this wonderful city you’ll find a lot of cheap Bologna hotels, where courtliness comes along with home-like calmliness and cosiness. Variety of cheap hotels in Bologna goes with fine service and convenience of location. Cheap Bologna hotels, budget Bologna hotels are neighbouring luxury hotels in Bologna. You can settle in Bologna apartments in the centre, near the exhibition block, railway station and airport. If you need it, you can find a good deal of cheap Bologna hotels near the business centre. There are wonderful conditions for business meetings and talks. Quiet atmosphere, Italian hospitality, abundance of dishes at Bologna hotels’ restaurants can satisfy any taste. All modern facilities are present in every cheap hotelroom in Bologna
However, remember, that during the tourist season reserving a cheap Bologna accommodation beforehand can deliver you of a lot of headache.
So, you found a hotel? Fine! Then you can begin sightseeing of Bologna from one of the "falling" towers. Now there are not more then dozen of towers in the town, but there use to be around a hundred in the time of Dante. Every self-respecting family ought to have had one. Two of those which survived the time, are slanting to each other (Degli Asinelli and Garisenda); it attracts special attention of tourists. The majority of sights are concentrated around the Piazza Maggiore (Maggiore Square). Performances are usually arranged there in the evenings. And you can watch them sitting in a cafe.
Bologna is famous for its marble pavement and porticoes. The porticoes protect from the blazing sun in summer, from rain and snow in fall and winter. The overall length of porticoes makes up 40 km (around 25 miles). The longest one – at the same time the longest in the World - is leading to the Sanctuary of the Madonna di San Luca. One of Bologna’s most prominent sights is Palazzo del Podesta. If one stands at one corner of this building and whispers a word, it will be clearly heard another corner of the building, due to its unique architecture.
However, Bologna is not only a city of antiques at least 500 hundred years old. Ducati motorbikes and Lamborghini and Ferrari cars are being produced near Bologna. Ferrari and Ducati have got their own museum-galleries, which are open for anyone who wishes to visit them and see their legendary cars. There are the rarest specimens, which gave a start to these plants’ histories: the most famous car-rarities and the most expensive cars, and the cars one will never be able to evaluate in money.
